The Tortoise and the Hare of Investments

Should I take the plunge or should I learn a bit more? 😬

If I learn a bit more now, I'll be better tomorrow, right?

All of this is absolutely true, and I'm the first to admit it.

The truth is, every time I take the leap, I learn so much more. I learn better, and I learn faster.

Let's take a look at two people starting with €10,000 (it could be $, same concept):

  1. Someone we'll call "Lazy Investor Subscriber" dives in quickly and improves over time.

  2. The other, Joe, dives in after 10 years with solid knowledge.

Over these 10 years, here's the difference between the two:

  1. Lazy Investor Subscriber finishes with €17,027, having:

Year 1: Starts with a modest +3% / year

Year 4: Improves by 1% (+4% / year)

Year 6: Improves by 1% (+5% / year)

Year 7: Improves by 2% (+7% / year)

Year 10: Improves by 5% (+12% / year)

  1. Joe finishes with €8,423, having:

Year 1: Starts with -4% / year due to inflation

Year 6: Improves by 2% (-2% / year)

Year 10: Finally invests and studies properly, achieving +12% / year. (Some say he took a course from the Lazy Investor...)

Then, both of them do nothing. As Antoine would say, "Relax, it's compound interest doing the work."

After 30 years, the difference between the two is huge - the one who started early and improved more than doubled Joe's capital.

  1. Lazy Investor Subscriber : €164,247 πŸ’°πŸ’°πŸ’°

  2. Joe : €81,253 πŸ’°

Honestly, I wish someone had shown me this earlier. This means that even if your investment today is just average, it's better than nothing.

And if you commit to improving by just 1 to 4% each year, you'll achieve results beyond your expectations. πŸ’ΈπŸ˜

I hope to be one of the people who accompanies you on this journey. I'll do my utmost.

Stay tuned,

Antoine.
